Feeling frisky, then he realized it was only a dream.

TEXAS LONGHORN STEER MASCOT BEVO XIV DIES

He was 13 years old and died in his sleep Friday at the ranch where he was born.  Cause of death was Bovine Cancer.

They will begin the search for Bevo XV hoping to have him on the field by November 2016.

There aren't any other longhorns available in Texas until next year?  I knew Texas recruiting was tough, but...

Plenty of Longhorns but the UT Longhorn has to be a young show quality steer with a very specific color combination and demeanor.  Also they train them for quite a while to adapt to crowds, noise, petting, etc....Longhorns are not exactly natural pets.    Bevo XIV and several others have come from the Baker Ranch not far from Austin.

you would think they'd have had recruitments years ago in anticipation for replacements.

Trivia On the topic of Mascots Bevo, travels almost everywhere but the SEC restricts Live Animal Mascots to home team appearances thus Mike the Tiger could not appear at the LSU vs USC game in Baton Rouge because the Cock's were really the home team.

87 degrees for a high today, perfect for watching football on the patio with some dark beers and cigars.
