The Mixing Room
-------------------------

A terrific explosion occurs in a gunpowder factory,
and once all the mess has been cleared up, and
inquiry begins.

One of the few survivors is pulled up to make
a statement. "Okay Simpson," says the investigator,
"you were near the scene, what happened?"

"Well, it's like this. Old Charley Higgins
was in the mixing room, and I saw him take a
cigarette out of his pocket and light up."

"He was smoking in the mixing room?" the investigator
said in stunned horror, "How long had he been
with the company?"

"About 20 years, sir"

"20 years in the company, then he goes and
strikes a match in the mixing room, I'd have thought
it would have been the last thing he'd have done."

"It was, sir."

So I lucked up and signed on yesterday and picked up the Diesel Uncuts which was my first jam purchase in more than 6 months, did anyone else hit any deals yesterday?

I did not.  Haven't even been tempted in some time.  The uncuts may have been my last purchase too, a couple of months back.  Are you back to smoking a bit more regularly?

Just had an order go through with the auction site, so nothing for me for now. But the Uncuts are on the list of things I want, so hopefully soon.

About the only thing I smoke are the La Aurora Leoninos Corojito's, I don't think I have had more than 3 regular chars in the last three months, even the little ones drive my blood pressure crazy. :-(

Wow.  Interesting.  Most cigars seem to lower people's blood pressure.

Good morning boys! I'm in cigar-buying limbo, I actually have some cash saved for cigars/CFest. I did a box split of the Room 101 MCIII Roxxos with Dave but that's about it so far. The issue for me when I have a bit of cigar money is that I get more picky with it, looking to make a perfect purchase so I'm all over the place in that regard. The thought was to save for Tats of some sort and the ones I smoke the most are the smaller variety, PCRs and Havana VI Angeles but I'm tempted by everything at the moment

I'm the same way, since I have cigar money so infrequently, gotta find the perfect deal. Though, I got a bonus at work last month, and again this month, so watch out!

I hear ya and that's a good thing but it makes my head spin. There are great deals on boxes of Tats on bids but I'm shying away from larger cigars lately due to smoking time. I'm watching a box of Tat 10th Anni Belle Encres that go up tomorrow, a box of Fausto Avion 12's for $107 up now. I find it easier to spend $40, 5 times than $200 once

I'm making fewer and fewer Jam purchases because the deals are not what they once were.  0% savings on Padrons?  OK, you get the free shipping, but I can do better elsewhere.  I get faster free delivery from Spain than I do from CI.  What's up with that?  Also, Bianca got back from Honduras last week with Flor de Selvas, so full humis here too.

Very few good Jam deals over the past 2 years but once in a while I pick up on one.  Short Stories were the last one for me I think.    Just seems to me like CI is unraveling at the seams and Famous is just as bad except they still ship quick.   That horrible Sure-Post service is another huge player in the poor service for both of them.   On top of all that Famous is just generally a bunch of pricks.

When they have a desirable item at a decent deal they still fly off the shelves in minutes just like the old days but that does not seem to register any value with them.

Once in a while something decent does show up, like CLE Cuarentas 10/$29.99 a couple Jams ago.  But so many good cigars at good prices have just disappeared, like LAdC EEs, Guillermo Leon CGs, and so on.  I just buy elsewhere.

I would guess that's what's hurting CI are the other outlets that can grossly undersell them for everything except the occasional deal. If I'm looking for a box or major purchase CI is the last place I'm looking

I used to buy a lot of boxes long ago but over the past few years I have drastically shifted towards more variety and now I mostly like to buy nothing more than 5 paks unless it is a really great box deal on something I like a lot.

I used to buy a lot of boxes long ago but over the past few years I have drastically shifted towards more variety and now I mostly like to buy nothing more than 5 paks.
I always use the bid site for boxes. If you're paying attention, you can score some great deals.
Never have much gotten into the bid sites, don't have the patience.
Doesn't take any patience the way I do it. Throw a bunch of low-ball bids up on some stuff, sit back and wait to see if anything sticks.
I'm more lazy than impatient.  So many deals to search through.  BTW, save me some time, will ya?  Anything good worth adding to my pudgy win today?
I added some Cusano 59 Cameroons and a couple 601 Steel Rods, mine ships today. Be curious to see how fast it arrives.

I would guess that's what's hurting CI are the other outlets that can grossly undersell them for everything except the occasional deal. If I'm looking for a box or major purchase CI is the last place I'm looking
+1 choose what you want, at a price you are willing to pay with autobid. sometimes nothing, sometimes 26 lots...

good morning boys, just some tidbits from
Bruces Twisted history.  the mayor & I did catch
up with each other on NJ Transit, stopped had a cigar
and some brews at the legion. then I drove him back to his car.
it was still daylight!  thanks again for the cigars.
Pleasure was mine.  I hope you can join us next week.
looking in to it.  Can the calendar be more specific than "Downtown Somerville"
I'll update it.  I'm looking to be at Penn to catch the 3:30 Northeast Corridor or 3:47 MontClair-Boonton Line in order to get to my car, if you want to ride with me.

Tried a Garage Brewing Marshmallow Milk Stout over the weekend, good stuff!  Tasted like marshmallow, sweet but not overly so.  I'd get it again, only cost $5 or so.  Also had a 2013 Stone Espresso Russian Imperial Stout... I feel like all of their breaks are two weeks long.  They had one within two months of starting the year, too.  Ridiculous.  Guess we don't have all the snow days built in, so maybe it's because of that?  Either way, I never want to hear a teacher talk about how underpaid they are, LOL.  I'm not saying it's an easy job, and I could probably never do it myself, but DAMN, they get a lot of time off throughout the year.

Gotcha covered, there.  I'll ask around for some good options closer to where you'll be, too.  Or you can shop at my preferred spot which is truly one of the best I've found in town, and they open before breakfast!  And there's always BevMo but they're kinda lacking with their beer selection compared to some smaller spots.

No, that's what I paid for them last year. Sale prices are almost always lower than VIP. I don't have the VIP membership any more either.

Have you guys tried any of the Ortega Wild Bunch? I remember Joe saying the Fast Eddie was very good, lancero

I've had a decent amount of them, liked all I've had.  My favorite is the Fast Eddie, though.
Morning Joe, good at what price?

Let me look through some order histories... Best price I got was through a sale at Cigar King.
They're in stock at Atlantic, $103.95 shown

That was the price before the discount at Cigar King, and I kinda remember thinking they were a deal at that price, even before applying the code.  Believe I ordered through at Atlantic for a box before, too... checking histories there.

$115 at Atlantic, which would've been the VIP price at the time.  So I'd say $103 is a deal on them.
Really? When I go on Atlantic it shows them at $103.95 sale price, but non-VIP because I don't have it
There usually isn't additional VIP discount on sale prices.

CBS Sports and ESPN both reported Barnes’ hiring at Tennessee. An official announcement is expected Tuesday afternoon, per CBS

Haven't had anything new, whiskey-wise lately.  Liking the Uigedail, but wish it were a tad smokier.  Something I'll probably buy again, though, if the price is right.  Haven't made it out to get Lagavulin 16, lots of people telling me I may not like it considering others I've enjoyed.  Eventually.  Tried a sample of Teeling Irish whiskey that someone had given me and it was about the most bland whisky I've ever had.

Coincidentally, the Lagavulin 16 was a topic of interest. I had some this weekend and enjoyed it very much. Although, I was told to pump the brakes a little before giving them the title... which I haven't. I find that I do like the peated though. Which I guess some others don't. Preference stuff like any other thing.

Afternoon, Mayor McCheese... what'd you smoke last night? Don't think you ever said.
It was a Espinosa EO 21 toro.  Not a great smoke but a decent every day cigar.
One of the alphabet deals this week.

What up, Coupon clippers. Looks like ya'll bought up all the NR's on the mash today... already disappeared from the list.

Afternoon, Steve.

Hey there, Joe. Good to see you. We were carrying the Scotch banter for you yesterday. I think I am slowly getting drawn in to something that could end up affecting my budget for my other hobbies. heh.

Sorry I missed that part.  Not sorry to miss any more Dean drama.

I like peat.  Some are saying it's a bit mellow compared to others I've had recently.  Not necessarily a bad thing, just like you said - preference.  But it's not going anywhere so there's no rush to get out and buy a bottle.  Got plenty to drink in the mean time.

So, what are some peated you've liked?

The Laphroaigs from the last tasting... 10 Year, Quarter Cask, Triple Wood, 10 Year cask.  Didn't like the 18 Year.  Liked the Kilchoman Machir Bay.  Uigedail is pretty good.   I haven't had a lot of others that I can think of.

Howdy Steve

Hey, bud. You clean the toilets yet?  ;)
Ohh GFY, did pick up some DrainO and cleaned out the obstruction(aka: hair) in the wife's sink yesterday :)

Damn, women. Amiright. I think I've pulled Cousin It from the shower drain on more than one occasion. She'll just stand in there with water up to her ankles and ask 'what could be wrong' with the drain. Seriously!?!  ::)
No shit, women, SHEESH!  Her sink would almost instantly fill and then take 30seconds for the water to go down - the shower is next, but I'm going to need another bottle of DrainO as her sink needed a double treatment   >:(

You should use your snake first.  ;)
Hi-yo!
BJs from Cousin It aren't on my list of things to get ;)
But are they on your list of things to avoid?

Former Texas coach Rick Barnes wasn’t out of work long.

According to multiple reports Tuesday morning, Barnes has been hired at Tennessee as the Volunteeers’ new basketball coach.

CBS Sports and ESPN both reported Barnes’ hiring at Tennessee. An official announcement is expected Tuesday afternoon, per CBS
Yea, I saw that.

Laphroaig... ah, yes. I remember you going to try that last week. The 10 was one of the bottles I picked up when I was browsing Friday. @$50 I believe. The store owner actually talked me into Macallan 10. So, now I just build a 'to try' list. Speyburn 10 this week.

Yeah, from one UT to another. Not much of a change in team colors either. Although, you may need to reference Golfs' PMS chart for those specific orange color differences.

No shit, you say that daily. Talk to the 2 retired guys on the banter, Dean & Joe
Don't think Dean's talking today.
That's 'cause you were all judging him yesterday.
More like trying to help him stay out of his own way.
some of us live vicariously through Dean, we didn't enjoy
getting worked over by the biker chick's famdamily!  ???
Or risking another eviction.
This current place isn't Dean's last stop, that I'll bet the ranch on
You will not get a bet out of me on that one.  I have spent time in that area and everybody is related to everybody........ not a place for a NY guy to go letting the little head do the driving.
And there be banjo's playin' in the background...sooie....

had to replace some onsite spares we used yesterday, keep two 1TB drives in the cabinet
of the virtual tape library.  the Seagate drives tend to schitt the bed early, thank god Hitachi bought
out Sepaton last year.  Replacement have been 1 TB Hitachi Sata, and they are rock solid.  Have 70 TB
of Seagate drives, and 94TB of Hitachi 2TB drives.  very rarely have a problem with the Hitachi drives,
the lost two of the Segates this weekend.  RAID 6 no hot spares. can lose two drives per tray of 12
and not lose data.  luckily different trays, different arrays.  Note to self keep buying WD or Hitachi...

last week bought 5 people drinks, got $10 back from a $20.
I guess she's not a physicist during the day.....

Hi WhiskySteve.

Afternoon, Mayor McCheese... what'd you smoke last night? Don't think you ever said.
It was a Espinosa EO 21 toro.  Not a great smoke but a decent every day cigar.

Not one I've had, but I'm sure you were glad to have a smoke. Did you have an adult beverage at said Legion?
Only a couple of soft drinks (Coors Lights).
What are you drinking that foreign swill for?
When in Rome...
I thought you were in Seacaucus?
We met there but ended up at the American Legion in Saddle Brook.

Was it nickel draft night?
I was advised to stick with the bottled beer.  Dish washing is not their specialty.
although while we were there, Cindy rewashed a bunch of shot glasses, and some
drink glasses, she washes them till they "feel clean"  three sink method, turbo brush with soap
in the first sink, snaitizer sink, and rinse sink(i think that's the order!).
the fact that she washes the glasses cleaned by the last shift, tells you why I drink from bottles.

Sink washed... Ya, bottles were definitely a wise decision.

day is dragging today, gonna go take a quick walk
to the computer room.
You're bored, and that's the best you can come up with to amuse yourself?  You need help, my man.
had to replace some onsite spares we used yesterday, keep two 1TB drives in the cabinet
of the virtual tape library.  the Seagate drives tend to schitt the bed early, thank god Hitachi bought
out Sepaton last year.
My sister is a financial exec for Hitachi America in the high-cap storage division. I'll tell her you're a happy customer.

Off to another pointless meeting.
Good time for your afternoon power nap.
As it turns out, it would be.  I got to the meeting, they said "J---- didn't talk to you?  S------ isn't leaving after all so you're not on this project." No, J---- didn't talk to me.  So, I go talk to James.  "S------ isn't leaving?"  sez I.  "No," sez he, but you're still going to back her up so we don't have this problem again. "Fine," say I, "but I'm not walking back across the street to that meeting."  "Catch the next one," says J----.
So J=James?  I'll take a stab and say that S=Suzanne.
You're half right.
That's only because you already spilt those beans.  No offense, Mark.
Yeah, well, it's one of those days.

Yeah, but it probably has a family to support, so we should follow it home.
