Today is Thursday, April 29, the 119th day of 2021.
There are 246 days left in the year.
Today’s Highlight in History:
I can't believe your source left this off.
On this day in 1944, British operator Nancy Wake parachuted into Nazi-occupied France as part of a 3-person Freelance team of British agents. She got tangled in a tree during landing, where she was discovered and freed by resistance fighter Henri Tardivat. Tardivat remarked "I hope that all the trees in France bear such beautiful fruit this year!" to which Wake replied, "Don't give me that French shit." Wake was reputed to be a very fast and accurate shooter. She later killed a German sentry with a barehanded strike that crushed his windpipe, so that he couldn't raise alarm. In 2001 she took up residence at the Stafford Hotel in St. James place, which during the war had been a serviceman's club where she had been introduced to her "first bloody good drink" by the manager.
I bet she was a fun girl, if you could keep up.
