A new TSA drivers license could be mandatory for doing more than driving between states in 2016. Nevada and Idaho are among the states which could keep you grounded if you don’t have an advanced form of the card called the Real ID.
This means that when you get to the TSA checkpoint, if your license doesn’t have the proper markings, such as a gold circle with a star inside it, it will feature the words “Not for Federal Official Use” and you might not be able to board a flight. Idaho residents are among those in nine states who will face a problem with this, due to the cost for the state to bring the documents up to compliance.
The Real ID Act passed in 2005 by Congress was created as a way to keep terrorists off of planes, and so far it hasn’t been entirely enforced
