Holy shit. The one good thing I learned yesterday is that soccer for my eight year old will conflict with her cheerleading. So now she has to choose one. She already told me she'd rather cheerlead and I'm ok with that because her soccer coach is a douche. Plus I like going to the football games.Hi Tony. Good morning Joe, DustyMorning, Scott. Nice weekend, lots of beers. Stuck with IPAs, for the most part. Port Brewing Mongo, Deschutes Hop Henge Experimental, and Knee Deep Simtra. Squeezed a North Coast Old Rasputin in there as well. All OK, nothing jumped out at me as a re-purchase. Maybe the Mongo. Old Rasputin was good but it had that high carbonation thing going on that kinda turns me off at times. Just seems to clash with an otherwise thick, sweet stout.

Exactly. Normally I'd be saving my booze budget for the liquor store/whiskey tasting tomorrow night but it's looking unlikely that I'll be able to attend. Dan's killing that for me, BTW. Can get more in to that tomorrow if you'd like. Or now, just say so. Wife's got plans for the weekend that'll include plenty of beer... Yes, we usually do have different definitions of that. O'well. Victory at Sea growler fills were available at one of the Ballast Point locations (still are). Might run out there and get some. Only thing holding me back are a few bottles that I already have, but I'm kinda curious to compare it how it tastes out of a bottle, see if I can pick up any differences. That's an awfully heavy beer to have to go through so much of in just a couple days, though.Well, something tells me you have differing views on the definition of "low key". Maybe that just means Dan and his wife and kids will come over to hangExactly. Darius Rucker concert Friday night at the fair, Oyster Fest on Saturday, and says Sunday will be 'low key' which I hope means leave me the hell alone and let me smoke cigars all day.Exactly, why fight the inevitable?I'll ask. No plans on stopping by the liquor store this week but that'll change by lunch time today.See if you can find the Horny Goat Choc/PB Porter, it's really good. Brewed in MilwaukeeGood morning Joe, DustyMorning, Scott. Hey Scott, Glad to see you had a chance for a couple drinks and at least 1 smoke. Better than no smoke. =)Have you gotten hold of the Chokolat yet?
I grabbed the last Creme Brulee off the local shelf. Only the Mokah left. Had a Tat Black CG Saturday, and another Namakubi on Sunday.

LOL, I know... I try to cut back on the amount of beer I drink during the week. I do really enjoy getting it on tap at the cigar shop. It was my old regular, before they got in the Mother Earth SinTax. That was before I realized that the PB stout was regularly available in stores. Given a choice between the two I'd definitely take the VaS. Maybe I'll go and get a smaller growler, just a 32oz jug.I would have to try that on tap, don't know how you're holding back. Looked all over town and was only able to find 1. Had it Memorial Weekend. Really good. Hate that I have to wait until October until I can get another.
And after doing some quick math, it's about the same price per ounce as what I pay at the super top secret liquor sells it for at their regular price (which is a couple bucks cheaper than most other places here). When they do the 2/$10, it's cheaper by the bottle. If this shop didn't seem to have an endless supply of it I'd be at the brewery right now waiting for them to open.LOL, I know... That should change soon. Their new brewery is almost ready to begin production. The current 'main' brewery will focus on specialty beers. Fucking Dan. I post a pic in the whiskey group about something I had Friday night. At least he doesn't vent online! ::)
Where'd you get it? Did you order online? Schedule for pick up somewhere? How much? Were there more at the shop if you got it locally? I checked the BevMo by me and they didn't have it. I see a BevMo bag in your picture. How come mine didn't have it?
Calm the fuck down, guy. Not every liquor store has the exact same inventory. Maybe they sold out? Maybe they hadn't put it on shelves? Maybe actually go to the store and check? Maybe call them?
FUCK.
This guy ruins everything for me. I know I'm an impulsive person and kinda go 'all in' with new interests, but he just feels like a copycat. Annoying as shit.
Just venting.

Well, in his defense, Gurkhas DO suck. Haha.LOL, can't tell you how many times I've heard him bash Gurkhas to people and I know he's never tried them.So he hates AJ stuff then too, huh? I post a pic in the whiskey group about something I had Friday night.Sheesh.
I'm sure we all know people who overstay their welcomes when visiting. Imagine if those people then contacted you constantly about everything.
Rant over, I'm feeling better now.

Cynthia got her own place back last October. Flossie's BOTL Ray had a huge townhouse go vacant unexpectedly, and gave her a great deal on the place. No first, last, and security, just the 1st month's rent. Worked out great. We still do daycare for Valentina though.Good afternoon Day Shifters! Retire from work and get the whole family out of the fucking house gig. Hey KC, did you ever send me that email? The truth is that you can set it up yourself but it may not be so intuitive. I will eventually put together an FAQ page. I have a list of maintenance things I want to fix within the next couple of days.Which gig?Good afternoon Day Shifters! I've started giving myself a 'recovery day' after vacations/trips. Used to come back on a Sunday, back at work Monday. Now I'll come back Saturday, or take Monday off if coming back on a Sunday. I need to do some traveling--but, yes offshore is my second home! Wish it was not, but there is a certain kind of relaxation there that I can't get on land. I would say a 'whatever flats your boat' comment, but that's too weird and ironic. Wife and I are trying to plan out a trip this fall/winter...Florida sounds nice.
Any opinions out there on the CAO Flathead? I can't help but be a little intrigued by stuff this company puts out, even though it's "new CAO" release. Atlantic now carrying a size I'd actually like: http://www.atlanticcigar.com/All-Cigars/CAO-Flathead-V450-Spark-Plug.aspI'm sure I'm in the minority here but I had the "lancero" sized one and wasn't impressed. And you should note that I have enjoyed a number of CAOs. Received a Flathead at CF this year, I think it was the 6x60. I was gonna pitch it and Charlie said that he liked 'em and so I gave it to him. I'm sure that doesn't help. Sorry :-\

It helps plenty. I figure, worst case, it'll be another ordinary CAO cigar. I'll grab one locally if I see one. As much as I've enjoyed the La Traviata and Sopranos, most of the others haven't been any better to my tastes than "OK". Nothing so bad that I'd never smoke it again, but nothing good enough that I'd ever actually buy again.

Joe, those two cigars you mentioned are THE only CAO I would buy. I did get a great deal on 20 MX2 robusto's from Corona, and considering they were aged a while--yellowed cello--would not buy more. Got them for $2.25 per with the DPG JJ nat for the same price. It was a bundle type deal, so I had to get 'em, if I wanted the JJ's. I tried to enable all, but nobody wanted them. OSA Sol was OK. Don't think I've tried the Concert yet but I have a couple. Maybe my tastes have changed, maybe the cigars have changed, maybe both.I thought the Concert was a great stick. I almost forgot about that one.
I'll have to dig it out and try it, then. Tonight or tomorrow.

Yeah, that's why I don't think I want to smoke it as a "walk to the train station" stick. However, the alternative is not smoking so...Emphasis on the XxX. Not too bad. Lot of men, printing money, and women...like Sturgis with way more money, bad things are bound to happen, but I don't think it's terrible. Terrible for ND historically, yes, still better than a majority of big cities, yes. The winters are brutal...if they made it through this last one they should be good for a few years!A lot of Louisiana oilfield guys are up there. I hope they are not getting on y'alls nerves, and corrupting your women! I had a chance to go up there, but not sure I can take the winters. I have several friends working 28/28 there.Haha, self-proclaimed :) I suppose you might know a few guys in the Baaken/Williston/Minot areas...Who said your a favorite? :P My best friend is in Minot. Works for Petro-Hunt.Well, meeting was just cancelled...I guess you get some more time with your favorite ND-MFer!I'm out for the day Gents...meeting prep and then heading home. Have a good night!Later, Shaun.

Always irks me when people won't smoke something because it's their "last one" or something's being saved for a 'special occasion'.
1) Being the last one is as good a reason as it gets to smoke it! Put it out of its misery! You can always buy another.
2) A good enough occasion will never come. Smoke it and realize that the cigar makes the occasion, not the other way around. -----jwacky-----Not necessarily. Every Saturday night is a special occasion, (some more special than others) and a few of us smoke our best stuff together on Saturday nights.

I used to get the Famous N3KGR (Gran Robustos) on a regular basis, when I had to move I stored my stash, so I haven't had one in a good while. How is it? If I remember, there were comments saying that one batch to another might be different. Sometimes they would be fantastic, then they'd sell out, and then the next batch may not be as good. But when they were good, they were good. Almost an oval shape, or soft box press. Fred used to like them also. Never could find out who made them.
Good Evening, Men!!! God I hate Mondays!!!Evening, MFer! Gotta get those US Open picks to you...

They vary some but I have never had any bad ones. Trick is they have to age at least 6 months and even much better in a year. This one is 6 months and pretty damn good for a $1.95 cigar good burn but draw is a bit tight. I try to buy some every year so I keep some well aged ones on hand. Got a few left from over 4 years ago and they are extremely good. No idea myself who makes them.

I will spend the family & Dylan time in the morning. I seem to do this every year because it's what I want to do. I wish they wouldn't have the US open & Father's Day on the same day every year. Awwww. He gets a pass then. I've seen very few Chihuahuas not shiver and shake when they are startled or scared. My old GF has had two Irish water spaniels (medium sized dogs) a generation apart, who both would go nuts with fireworks or thunder, racing upstairs and hiding under the bed, shaking like crazy. Famous Nic 3000 and Sparkling Water here on the patio./// Just getting ready to eat dinner, thought I'd check in and Dave, your post caught my eye.
WOOO HOOOOO!!!! Thanks Steve!!! WOW...junior status, I've only dared to dream this big!!!-----SJ-----Evening Jeff! E.O. 21 Robusto with a Vernor's.KC, answered my question before I could post it. I had at least a couple of the E.O. #21 toros over the weekend. Doesn't disappoint me.
good evening. fought with Verizon over data usage, assholes. hung cabinettes and worked on window/door trim in the clubhouse, helped FIL stain his deck, played 9 holes of lousy golf, and now enjoying my last Hair of the Dog.
I love Mondays!

This cigar is great. I knew it would be. ForbiddenX Toro, with the black foot band. There is a reason why they cost! perfect draw, burn, and taste! I have smoked 2 of these.

Mmmmmm ... sounds so good. Somehow, I never felt the GRs were too big, seemed just right for the blend. Don't recall having the Churchill, but definitely the toro and torpedo ... will keep an eye out for them ... I would get them on the auction site, usually. Thanks, Dave. Which vitolas do you prefer? The oldest ones I have are giant Grande Robusto's and probably my favorite but too large for most folks. Toro's are very good all around and I have a Churchill right now first one of them. Good for 6 months but the draw is too tight. They have some Toro's in stock now as well as Grande Robusto's. I try to catch them on the Mash.
ROTFLThat dog should be on a bun, not your lap.Chihuahua.Hey Ken, I"m trying to picture this. Is the dog a Newfoundland or a shi-tzu?Joe, I agree 100%! Me and the dog are really enjoying this cigar! He jumped in my lap, because the thunder is scaring him. So, second hand smoke for him!Always irks me when people won't smoke something because it's their "last one" or something's being saved for a 'special occasion'.
1) Being the last one is as good a reason as it gets to smoke it! Put it out of its misery! You can always buy another.
2) A good enough occasion will never come. Smoke it and realize that the cigar makes the occasion, not the other way around. -----jwacky-----Not necessarily. Every Saturday night is a special occasion, (some more special than others) and a few of us smoke our best stuff together on Saturday nights.

still no posts from Patty Monster. WTF.Dean, I sent her a PM from CI Banter, and told her where we are at. I still talk with her, and Yahoo IM with her. Very cool person, as you know. Hopefully she will start posting.
DPG Vegas Cubanas double corona.Hey Will, sounds nice. Are we still smoking Churchill sized cigars in honor of D-Day?
I'll have to start hunting for one. Please post a play by play review.
I got this about a year ago from when Atlantic was running them on special. Something like $2.80/ea. Lotta cigar for the money.
Flavor wise, the DPG VC was never top shelf Pepin. Better than the mixed fillers stuff, maybe on par with the original long filler Tabaocs Baez (though different flavor profiles and wrappers and such), maybe a little higher. But not on par with the Black, Blue, JJ, etc.
Draw is a little tight, even burn for the first half inch so far. Medium body, medium flavor, so-so smoke production. Coffee with cream, mild to moderate amount of Pepin spice/pepper, cedar accents. Not a bad start.

NEW YORK CITYBravo KC well done! . LMAO .
An Original Poem by KC.
“New York City, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.//
I love thee when I’m uptown, where the stench invades my nose.
I love thee when I’m downtown, where garbage stains my clothes.//
I love thee in the summer, when the tar sticks to my feet.
I love thee when they pave ‘round cars park-ed in the street.//
I love thee by the factories, which spew forth filth and grime.
I love thee down by City Hall, which spews forth naught but crime.//
Thy dear, quaint, pristine beauty, and thy old charm I adore.
But if thou floated out to sea, I’d love thee even more!

Manure: ... An interesting fact Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything for export had to be transported by ship. It was also before the invention of commercial fertilizers, so large shipments of manure were quite common. It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by-product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the instruction ' Stow high in transit ' on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this "volatile" cargo and start the production of methane. Thus evolved the term ' S.H.I.T ' , (Stow High In Transit) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day. You probably did not know the true history of this word. Neither did I. I had always thought it was a golf term...NY is great. Of course, I have never been there. It may be shitty as all hell!Yikes!!! I had always thought it was a golf term...-----Sly-----Evening Sly! Sorry, but that story is a crock of, well, shit. The word comes from the old Low German word "schite", meaning dung, back in the 14th century. That acronym story started circulating on the internet in 2002.Thanks for the correction, KC, especially before I forward it to others. I figured if anyone knew about life aboard sea worthy ships, you would.
