Any cigar deals on the various internet sites that are worth talking about? Join in this discussion and perhaps learn something along the way.  Be warned, post on this site and you will catch hell from members and trolls alike.  Therefore, don't proceed if you have thin skin.  If you can accept all that, light a cigar, pour a drink and welcome aboard!

Murphy's Technology Laws
-------------------------

You can never tell which way the train went by looking
at the track.

Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong
conclusion with confidence.

Whenever a system becomes completely defined, some damn
fool discovers something which either abolishes the
system or expands it beyond recognition.

Technology is dominated by those who manage what they
do not understand.

If builders built buildings the way programmers wrote
programs, then the first woodpecker that came along
would destroy civilization.

The opulence of the front office decor varies inversely
with the fundamental solvency of the firm.

The attention span of a computer is only as long as it
electrical cord.

An expert is one who knows more and more about less and
less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing.

Tell a man there are 300 billion stars in the universe
and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint
on it and he'll have to touch to be sure.

All great discoveries are made by mistake.

Always draw your curves, then plot your reading.

Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget.

All's well that ends.

A meeting is an event at which the minutes are kept and
the hours are lost.

The first myth of management is that it exists.

A failure will not appear till a unit has passed final
inspection.

New systems generate new problems.

To err is human, but to really foul things up requires a
computer.

We don't know one millionth of one percent about
anything.

Any given program, when running, is obsolete.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable
from magic.

A computer makes as many mistakes in two seconds as 20
men working 20 years make.

The faster a computer is, the faster it will reach a
crashed state.

Nothing motivates a man more than to see his boss putting
in an honest day's work.

Some people manage by the book, even though they don't
know who wrote the book or even what book.

The primary function of the design engineer is to make
things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for
the serviceman.

To spot the expert, pick the one who predicts the job will
take the longest and cost the most.

After all is said and done, a hell of a lot more is said
than done.

Any circuit design must contain at least one part which is
obsolete, two parts which are unobtainable and three parts
which are still under development.

A complex system that works is invariably found to have
evolved from a simple system that works.

If mathematically you end up with the incorrect answer, try
multiplying by the page number.

Computers are unreliable, but humans are even more
unreliable. Any system which depends on human
reliability is unreliable.

Give all orders verbally. Never write anything down that
might go into a "Pearl Harbor File."

Under the most rigorously controlled conditions of
pressure, temperature, volume, humidity, and other
variables the organism will do as it damn well pleases.

If you can't understand it, it is intuitively obvious.

The more cordial the buyer's secretary, the greater the odds
that the competition already has the order.

In designing any type of construction, no overall dimen-
sion can be totaled correctly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The
correct total will become self-evident at 8:15 a.m. on
Monday.

Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch where it
itches.

All things are possible except skiing through a revolving
door.

The only perfect science is hind-sight.

Work smarder and not harder and be careful of yor speling.

If it's not in the computer, it doesn't exist.

If an experiment works, something has gone wrong.

When all else fails, read the instructions.

If there is a possibility of several things going wrong
the one that will cause the most damage will be the one
to go wrong.

Everything that goes up must come down.

Any instrument when dropped will roll into the least
accessible corner.

Any simple theory will be worded in the most complicated
way.

Build a system that even a fool can use and only a fool
will want to use it.

The degree of technical competence is inversely
proportional to the level of management.

Any attempt to print Murphy's laws will jam the printer.

Morning gents.  Anyone else having issues with the CI website?  Never mind, stupid question.
What's a CI? Morning, Mark.
It's that place where you anticipate the visit but leave empty handed.  Kinda like a titty bar but without the tits.  Or bar.

42 degrees this morning mid 60's this afternoon.
16 here right now. Almost feels like a heat wave. Back down to 4 for the high tomorrow.
Though the windchill is 1, so maybe not so much.
1 or 16 either way that is too cold for me!
Yeah, same here.
Everyone is unhappy about 29° this morning, imagine what we would hear if it was 1°.

In 1930, photographic evidence of Pluto (now designated a "dwarf planet") was discovered by Clyde W. Tombaugh at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Should have left it a planet.
There's a book called "The Pluto Files", by Neil deGrasse Tyson, about the history of Pluto, its status being changed, and the backlash they got for it. Good read.
Tyson is a very engaging author and orator, I'll look for it.
Grows a lot of chickens up in NE Texas and AR too.
Thanks for that input Mr. 10K.  I hear he boxes pretty well too.

I envision retiring the very first day I'm eligible.  Whether or not that plan comes to fruition is up to me.  Morning, all.
Howdy Joe!  Not sure if I told you yet or not, San Diego is happening, sometime around May 9th-17th...I will update you where we are staying, flying in/out, etc once we finalize the booking.

You should just retire and stick to being banter CEO.

I find that flying in/out happens best at airports, they get mad when you touchdown at the mall or marina....

Hi Joe.  I was thinking of you a couple of nights ago while drinking a New Brighton Coffee Stout.  I thought it was much better than the 81 beeradvocate gave 'em.

What are you doing here?  It's only Wednesday.

Slight schedule change with my government job so I'll be here Tuesdays and Wednesdays now.  Monday, Thursday, Friday at the other.  Fun times, eh?  Can't wait to just settle in one place again, though this deal hasn't been bad at all.  Morning, Tony.

My new plan is get in with the government and end up in an elected official position.  Maybe the Treasurer/Tax Collector.  Make cash.  Retire early.  Plan B is college scholarships for the kids and retire on the savings on tuition.  Plan C is for extreme inflation and making a killing off our house.  D is the lottery.  E, some sort of lawsuit that pays me a lot.  Actually grinding away a career is WAY down the list.

Grapefruit Sculpin is GOOD!  It's the same price as the regular Sculpin, just kinda magnifies those flavors.  I like it.  Also loved that PB Chocolate from Horny Goat that you sent me.  I've lost track of where I've ranked each one, but the only one I've been a bit disappointed with is the Karl Strauss peanut butter cup porter.  People here rave about it but probably because it was "first".  I think it's really light bodied and way to carbonated tasting.  I wish SinTax came in six packs.

Yeah, for sure.  Not sure if many places have pools in that area, not a whole lot of land with them.  But who knows, I've never searched for vacation house rentals.  Of course, we do have beaches here... but the ocean is f'ing freezing.

Yeah, that was kind of our impression.  My BiL lived in San Diego when he was stationed there in the Navy, we are making him our resident expert and he said the same thing-get a heated pool/hot tub.

I will need to commission you to bring some PB Beers for me to try when I visit  ;D

They seem to be much more prevalent on the east coast.  Only two regularly available here that I know of, the Mother Earth SinTax and the Belching Beaver PB Milk Stout.  I much prefer the Mother Earth.  Gonna visit any breweries when you're here or are general plans still up in the air?
That SinTax sounds awesome!  We are planning on doing a few breweries, my dad is getting pretty into homebrewing and my BiL is West Coast IPA guy.  Ballast Pt, Stone, and Green Flash are on my radar to visit...any others your recommend?

AleSmith for sure.  Port/Lost Abbey. Coronado Brewing if you're spending time in Coronado, anyway. A lot of people really like Societe but I've never tried their stuff since I don't believe they bottle anything.
I think we might hit a couple of them over the week - do most have food and stuff too?  Grab a lunch and a flight sampler/growler?

Most do not have food in house, many bring in food trucks. The Miramar and Little Italy Ballast Point locations have kitchens.  Stone at Liberty Station does but their food is weird.  Alesmith does not.  Never been to Port/Lost Abbey, I just love their beers.  When I was at Green Flash they had a food truck.

Alesmith puts out a coffee/peanut butter Speedway Stout on occasion but I've heard it isn't very good.  Never feel like making the trip to the brewery to try it, they don't bottle it.  The brewery is actually right down the street from the cigar shop where I meet Jersey Dave when he's in town.  Dave's worth it.  PB beer, not quite.   I can just buy other varieties of it in stores.

Also, OyDave... you missed out on those Room 101 Connies.  I really enjoy them, glad I took the risk.  I've had two now since I got them last week.  Real nice, rich flavors but still keeps the mild-medium strength.  Not sure where I'd rank it among my other go-to connies. Not on the same level as the EPC Short Run 2012 or the New Wave Reserva, but I definitely prefer it to the Griffins.  Pretty comparable to the Camacho Connie, maybe even slightly better to my tastes.  I should've grabbed two boxes at that price.  I don't think I'd pay 'full' price of $120ish for them but I wouldn't be disappointed if I'd paid $4-$5 at a cigar shop for one.

$68 for the 25ct box.  I can definitely say they're my favorite $3 (or less) connie, with the caveat that it's a small sample size.  I'd choose it over the NWC or Griffins at that price.

Morning gents.  Anyone else having issues with the CI website?  Never mind, stupid question.
What's a CI? Morning, Mark.
It's that place where you anticipate the visit but leave empty handed.  Kinda like a titty bar but without the tits.  Or bar.
A combination titty bar/cigar lounge. Why doesn't someone open this establishment right now?
Do you know how hard it is to get the cigar smells out of G-strings?
Probably the same as getting the G-string smells out of the cigar...

Long weekend and I came back to a shit storm.  How the fuck am I supposed to banter with these conditions?
You should just retire and stick to being banter CEO.
those of us with children that need to eventually go to college, don't envision not working....
Indeed. Even after the kids are long gone, I don't ever envision not working.

Hey there, Shaun, good to hear!  I remember that you were tentatively planning a trip out this way.  I won't pencil anything in just yet but will certainly find the time to me up if you can.
Absolutely - already told the wife I will be heading to meet you for a cigar or two!

Whole family coming out or just you and the wife?
I should be out there that week as well.

Hi Joe.  I was thinking of you a couple of nights ago while drinking a New Brighton Coffee Stout.  I thought it was much better than the 81 beeradvocate gave 'em.

http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28208/101633/

I usually buy a beer first based on how it sounds and THEN look at reviews. What do they know about my tastes, anyway?!   I don't think my beloved Mother Earth SinTax is reviewed particularly high, either.
That's exactly what I did.
I just stopped for beer on the way back from my MRI, no more VaS 6-packs but they had grapefruit Sculpin and I also got some Horny Goat Choc PB porter so not too shabby

I've heard there are one or two in the general area.

Do a search for Karl Strauss.  Decent brews and nice pub food.  There are about 4-5 in the San Diego area.

Or leave the smells there and slap a Gurkha label on it.
Is that why Flip enjoys the Gurks?
must be 20 some odd years ago, wore a tie to my divorce, that had been taken off me, by the gal on stage, and been used to replace her G string...  I didn't say that out loud did I?

those of us with children that need to eventually go to college, don't envision not working....
Indeed. Even after the kids are long gone, I don't ever envision not working.

Hey there, Shaun, good to hear!  I remember that you were tentatively planning a trip out this way.  I won't pencil anything in just yet but will certainly find the time to me up if you can.
Absolutely - already told the wife I will be heading to meet you for a cigar or two!

I should be out there that week as well.

Indeed. Even after the kids are long gone, I don't ever envision not working.

No shit!  AWESOME! CigarFest 2015 - San Diego!   8)
Not really
You going to head over too?
I would love to...but no
DO IT!!!!!!!

Or leave the smells there and slap a Gurkha label on it.
Is that why Flip enjoys the Gurks?
must be 20 some odd years ago, wore a tie to my divorce, that had been taken off me, by the gal on stage, and been used to replace her G string...  I didn't say that out loud did I?
my problem is getting the shit stains out of my G strings. Now I just by them in brown.
LMFAO!  (http://static9.bigstockphoto.com/thumbs/8/6/5/small2/56866109.jpg)

It bears repeating, and I'm bored at work.

The Betrothed
by Rudyard Kipling

"You must choose between me and your cigar."
 - Breach of Promise Case, circa 1885.

Open the old cigar-box, get me a Cuba stout,
For things are running crossways, and Maggie and I are out.
We quarrelled about Havanas - we fought o'er a good cheroot,
And I knew she is exacting, and she says I am a brute.

Open the old cigar-box - let me consider a space;
In the soft blue veil of the vapour musing on Maggie's face.
Maggie is pretty to look at - Maggie's a loving lass,
But the prettiest cheeks must wrinkle, the truest of loves must pass.

There's peace in a Larranaga, there's calm in a Henry Clay;
But the best cigar in an hour is finished and thrown away -
Thrown away for another as perfect and ripe and brown -
But I could not throw away Maggie for fear o' the talk o' the town!

Maggie, my wife at fifty - grey and dour and old -
With never another Maggie to purchase for love or gold!
And the light of Days that have Been the dark of the Days that Are,
And Love's torch stinking and stale, like the butt of a dead cigar -

The butt of a dead cigar you are bound to keep in your pocket -
With never a new one to light tho' it's charred and black to the socket!
Open the old cigar-box - let me consider a while.
Here is a mild Manila - there is a wifely smile.

Which is the better portion - bondage bought with a ring,
Or a harem of dusky beauties, fifty tied in a string?
Counsellors cunning and silent - comforters true and tried,
And never a one of the fifty to sneer at a rival bride?

Thought in the early morning, solace in time of woes,
Peace in the hush of the twilight, balm ere my eyelids close,
This will the fifty give me, asking nought in return,
With only a Suttee's passion - to do their duty and burn.

This will the fifty give me. When they are spent and dead,
Five times other fifties shall be my servants instead.
The furrows of far-off Java, the isles of the Spanish Main,
When they hear my harem is empty will send me my brides again.

I will take no heed to their raiment, nor food for their mouths withal,
So long as the gulls are nesting, so long as the showers fall.
I will scent 'em with best vanilla, with tea will I temper their hides,
And the Moor and the Mormon shall envy who read of the tale of my brides.

For Maggie has written a letter to give me my choice between
The wee little whimpering Love and the great god Nick o' Teen.
And I have been servant of Love for barely a twelvemonth clear,
But I have been Priest of Cabanas a matter of seven year;

And the gloom of my bachelor days is flecked with the cheery light
Of stumps that I burned to Friendship and Pleasure and Work and Fight.
And I turn my eyes to the future that Maggie and I must prove,
But the only light on the marshes is the Will-o'-the-Wisp of Love.

Will it see me safe through my journey or leave me bogged in the mire?
Since a puff of tobacco can cloud it, shall I follow the fitful fire?

Open the old cigar-box - let me consider anew -
Old friends, and who is Maggie that I should abandon you?
A million surplus Maggies are willing to bear the yoke;
And a woman is only a woman, but a good Cigar is a Smoke.

Light me another Cuba - I hold to my first-sworn vows.
If Maggie will have no rival, I'll have no Maggie for Spouse!

Box of Cigars
By Gerald Stern

I tried one or two but they were stale
and broke like sticks or crumbled when I rolled them
and lighting a match was useless nor could I
put them back in the refrigerator—
it was too late for that—even licking them
filled my mouth with ground-up outer leaf,
product of Lancaster or eastern Virginia,
so schooled I am with cigars, it comes in the blood,
and I threw handfuls of them into the street
from three floors up and, to my horror, sitting
on my stoop were four or five street people
who ran to catch them as if they were suddenly rich,
and I apologize for that, no one should
be degraded that way, my hands were crazy,
and I ran down to explain but they were smoking
already nor did I have anything to give them
since we were living on beans ourselves, I sat
and smoked too, and once in a while we looked
up at the open window, and one of us spit
into his empty can. We were visionaries.

Thank you for Not Smoking. Cigarette smoke is the residue of your pleasure. It contaminates the air, pollutes my hair and clothes, not to mention my lungs. This takes place without my consent. I have a pleasure, also. I like a beer now and then. The residue of my pleasure is urine. Would you be annoyed if I stood on a chair and pissed on your head and your clothes without your consent? ~Sign from Ken's Magic Shop

What a weird thing smoking is and I can't stop it. I feel cosy, have a sense of well-being when I'm smoking, poisoning myself, killing myself slowly. Not so slowly maybe. I have all kinds of pains I don't want to know about and I know that's what they're from. But when I don't smoke I scarcely feel as if I'm living.
