Had a boat crash almost right in front of our place yesterday, there is a sandbar where the party boat types congregate on weekends and holidays just past our property.  Big hangout for alcohol and drugs.  Nearest place for the Waterway EMT Crew to load the ambulance was our parking lot.

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One man has been arrested (photo below) following a boating accident on the Intracoastal Waterway for fleeing the scene, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

An SCDNR spokesperson said the boating accident took place between two boating vessels Sunday evening.

Horry County Fire Rescue was also on the scene.

HCFR says one person was transported with minor injuries for evaluation.

Good morning Dave. I ride my bike a lot to this ice cream place then I don't feel so guilty. The place is a gold mine and it's cash only so you know their doing well.

I love ice cream but don’t eat it very often as it is so fattening.  There are literally dozens and dozens of ice cream shops here but most are not all that good.  But, there are a few good ones, two of which are very near where I keep my fishing boat and I do partake in my favorite, a peach ice cream waffle cone, at them occasionally.

redhead made the business meetings last night but ran off immediately after to get something to eat. her sugar got low. when she showed up at the house I asked if she was alright. apparently she wolfed down some fries and they got stuck in her throat. I gave her some milk and honey sticks to help clear the obstruction and get some sugar in her system. she was a mess all night. why would a diabetic go ALL day without eating and then panic when their system goes out of wack? she just left for home. still not feeling well. no matter what I suggested or tried to do for her was rejected, including a trip to the ER. glad she's gone. I'm sure I'll get a text from her complaining about something I didn't do.

Today is Monday, July 8, the 189th day of 2019. There are 176 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:
On July 8, 1947, a New Mexico newspaper, the Roswell Daily Record, quoted officials at Roswell Army Air Field as saying they had recovered a "flying saucer" that crashed onto a ranch; officials then said it was actually a weather balloon. (To this day, there are those who believe what fell to Earth was an alien spaceship carrying extra-terrestrial beings.)

On this date:
In 1776, Col. John Nixon gave the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence, outside the State House (now Independence Hall) in Philadelphia.
In 1911, cowgirl "Two-Gun Nan" Aspinwall became the first woman to make a solo trip by horse across the United States, arriving in New York 10 months after departing San Francisco.
In 1947, demolition work began in New York City to make way for the new permanent headquarters of the United Nations.
In 1950, President Harry S. Truman named Gen. Douglas MacArthur commander-in-chief of United Nations forces in Korea. (Truman ended up sacking MacArthur for insubordination nine months later.)
In 1965, Canadian Pacific Air Lines Flight 21, a Douglas DC-6B, crashed in British Columbia after the tail separated from the fuselage; all 52 people on board were killed in what authorities said was the result of an apparent bombing.
In 1972, the Nixon administration announced a deal to sell $750 million in grain to the Soviet Union. (However, the Soviets were also engaged in secretly buying subsidized American grain, resulting in what critics dubbed "The Great Grain Robbery.")
In 1975, President Gerald R. Ford announced he would seek a second term of office.
In 1986, Kurt Waldheim was inaugurated as president of Austria despite controversy over his alleged ties to Nazi war crimes. Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, widely regarded as father of the nuclear navy, died in Arlington, Virginia.
In 1994, Kim Il Sung, North Korea's communist leader since 1948, died at age 82.
In 2000, Venus Williams beat Lindsay Davenport 6-3, 7-6 (3) for her first Grand Slam title, becoming the first black female champion at Wimbledon since Althea Gibson in 1957-58.
In 2011, former first lady Betty Ford died in Rancho Mirage, California, at age 93. Atlantis thundered into orbit on a cargo run that would close out the three-decade U.S. space shuttle program.
In 2017, at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, world powers lined up against President Donald Trump on climate change, reaffirming their support for international efforts to fight global warming. On trade, the U.S. and international partners endorsed open markets while acknowledging that countries had a right to put up barriers to block unfair practices. After their first face-to-face meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he thought Trump believed his denials of Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential vote.

Ten years ago: Group of Eight leaders, including President Barack Obama, pledged to dramatically cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 as they met in L'Aquila, Italy. South Korea blamed North Korea for cyberattacks targeting its websites as well as those in the U.S.

Five years ago: President Barack Obama appealed to Congress for $3.7 billion in emergency spending to deal with the immigration crisis on the nation's southern border, where unaccompanied children were showing up by the thousands (Republican lawmakers rejected the request). Washington became the second state to allow people to buy marijuana legally in the U.S. without a doctor's note. Germany handed Brazil its heaviest World Cup loss ever with a 7-1 rout in the semifinals that stunned the host nation.

One year ago: A woman who was poisoned in southwest England died, eight days after she may have touched a contaminated item containing the same type of military-grade nerve agent used to poison a former Russian spy and his daughter in the area in March. Divers rescued four of the 12 boys who'd been trapped in a flooded cave in northern Thailand with their soccer coach for more than two weeks. (The remaining eight boys and their coach were rescued over the next two days.) Actor and singer Tab Hunter died at the age of 86.

This is one crazy tropical system!

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
800 AM EDT Mon Jul 8 2019

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. A trough of low pressure located over central Georgia is forecast to
move southward toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, where a broad
area of low pressure is expected to form in a couple of days.  Some
gradual development is possible thereafter and a tropical depression
is likely to form by the end of the week while the low meanders near
the northern Gulf Coast.  Regardless of development, this system has
the potential to produce heavy rainfall along portions of the
northern and eastern U.S. Gulf Coast later this week.  For more
information about the rainfall threat, please see products issued by
your local weather forecast office and the NOAA Weather Prediction
Center.  Interests along the northern Gulf Coast and the Florida
peninsula should monitor the progress of this system.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent.

Interesting

One of the major players in the cigar industry has said based on the current plans by the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) for its CigarCon event that he is pulling out. David Garofalo today confirmed on the July 6th edition of his The Cigar Authority podcast that PCA 2020 will go on without him.

Garofalo cited he feels the direction by the PCA with bringing consumers into CigarCon will affect his ability to do business.

“I know what they (PCA) said they are doing to do. That’s enough information to say I’m out,” said Garofalo.

It’s a monster move that affects many things. Garofalo owns Two Guys Smoke Shop, one of the largest retail chains in the country. In addition, Garofalo also owns United Cigar which distributes many brands including Atabey, Byron, Bandolero, Garofalo, La Gianna Havana, and Fleur de la Reine. In addition, The Cigar Authority, which has one of the largest listenerships in the country will not be covering the show.

“They shouldn’t be worrying about me as the booth owner, but worry about me as the buyer,” commented Garofalo. According to Garofalo, he budgets around $1,000,000.00 a year to spend at the trade show as well as work with the manufacturers on promotions and events. Now it’s $1,000,000.00 less in revenue being generated by manufacturers at the show.

While some critics may say Garofalo’s decision is not a good business move, Garofalo feels this is the wrong direction the PCA is heading in. “I’m going to pay financially. It’s going to end up hurting, but somebody’s got to make a stand,” commented Garofalo.

Garofalo realizes some consumers might be put off by his decision, but according to him, the Trade Show is an important part of his business. “I’d rather be with you (consumers) 360 days a year, but give me some time where I need to get business done.”

The PCA and CigarCon event is scheduled to open July 10, 2020, in Las Vegas.

At the 2019 IPCPR Trade Show, Espinosa Cigars showcased the 601 La Bomba Warhead V. As the name indicates, it is the fifth installment of the Espinosa’s Warhead series.

The Warhead is an offshoot of the 601 La Bomba line – Espinosa’s line of powerful Nicaraguan puros. For the Warhead, Espinosa Cigars introduced a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro based off the original La Bomba blend in a box-pressed format. Each installment of the Warhead has been a different limited production vitola where the Broadleaf blend is optimized to the vitola size. These have been typically one and done releases.

Nah, we were the ones who traded him because we knew we wouldn't be able to afford him in the offseason. He was a great pitcher for us, nothing but love, as evidenced by the fact that he's being recognized this week. Lol

Had to go down to Water Dept. this afternoon after getting a notice of discontinuation of service due to not paying the bill. After waiting on the phone for 50 minutes I was told I had to prove they cashed the check.  Brought copy of the check and statement from my bank.

Check was sent June 16, cashed July 2.   After I asked for a confirmation document from the water department lady she snipped, "Well, it was only entered into the system today".  Well, who the fucks fault is that???
