Enjoyed a nice afternoon and evening with the Boy and DIL, fabulous venison tenderloin with a mushroom sauce the Boy cooked up for dinner.  Ice Cold Watermelon for dessert hit the spot.  Sat on the balcony and watched fireworks until the rain mostly put an end to them around 9:30.

It's not your imagination: Americans are shooting off more fireworks than ever

Americans shoot off almost 1 pound of fireworks each year for every adult.

And this figure has grown rapidly in recent years, from half a pound per adult in 2000. In 1976, the United States’ bicentennial, the figure was just one-sixth of a pound annually.

A reason for the big increase is the steady reduction in state prohibitions against individuals using fireworks. Today only Massachusetts completely prohibits individuals from owning and using any type of fireworks. The other states all allow usage in some form.

The most recent states to allow fireworks are New Jersey, Delaware and Iowa, whose new law legalizes fireworks around the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve only.

Fireworks are also illegal in many urban areas, like New York City.

Because states are now permitting individuals to purchase and possess fireworks, there has been a large shift from professional to amateur use. Back in 2000, roughly one-third of all fireworks were set off during professional displays, the kind that light the skies of cities around the world on holidays like New Year’s Eve and national celebrations. By 2017, professional displays made up less than 10 percent.

Today Is:  NATIONAL BIKINI DAY – July 5

Since July 5, 1946, women have been hitting the beaches and poolsides in bikinis. National Bikini Day marks the anniversary of the invention of the revealing two-piece bathing suit.

Today is Friday, July 5, the 186th day of 2019. There are 179 days left in the year.

Today's Highlight in History:
On July 5, 1954, Elvis Presley's first commercial recording session took place at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee; the song he recorded was "That's All Right."

On this date:
In 1811, Venezuela became the first South American country to declare independence from Spain.
In 1865, the Secret Service Division of the U.S. Treasury Department was founded in Washington, D.C., with the mission of suppressing counterfeit currency.
In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the National Labor Relations Act.
In 1946, the bikini, created by Louis Reard, was modeled by Micheline Bernardini during a poolside fashion show in Paris.
In 1947, Larry Doby made his debut with the Cleveland Indians, becoming the first black player in the American League three months after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the National League. In the game against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park, Doby, pinch-hitting for Bryan Stephens, struck out in his first at-bat during the seventh inning; Chicago won 6-5.
In 1971, President Richard Nixon certified the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which lowered the minimum voting age from 21 to 18.
In 1975, Arthur Ashe became the first black man to win a Wimbledon singles title as he defeated Jimmy Connors, 6-1, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
In 1977, Pakistan's army, led by General Mohammad Zia ul-Haq, seized power from President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (Bhutto was executed in 1979).
In 1989, "The Seinfeld Chronicles," the pilot to the situation comedy "Seinfeld," aired on NBC-TV.
In 1991, a worldwide financial scandal erupted as regulators in eight countries shut down the Bank of Credit and Commerce International.
In 2011, a jury in Orlando, Florida, found Casey Anthony, 25, not guilty of murder, manslaughter and child abuse in the 2008 disappearance and death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.
In 2013, Pope Francis cleared two of the 20th Century's most influential popes to become saints in the Roman Catholic church, approving a miracle needed to canonize Pope John Paul II and waiving Vatican rules to honor Pope John XXIII.

Ten years ago: A bankruptcy judge ruled that General Motors Corp. could sell the bulk of its assets to a new company, clearing the way for the automaker to emerge from bankruptcy protection. Riots and street battles that killed nearly 200 people erupted in China's western Xinjiang province in the deadliest ethnic unrest to hit the region in decades. Roger Federer won his record 15th Grand Slam title when he outlasted Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14 in a marathon match for his sixth Wimbledon championship.

Five years ago: Ukrainian troops forced pro-Russian insurgents out of Slovyansk, a key stronghold in Ukraine's embattled east. Petra Kvitova overwhelmed Eugenie Bouchard 6-3, 6-0 in less than an hour to win Wimbledon for the second time.

One year ago: Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned amid ethics scandals that prompted more than a dozen federal and congressional investigations; deputy administrator Andrew Wheeler, a former coal industry lobbyist, was named to take over as acting administrator. James Alex Fields Jr. pleaded not guilty to federal hate crime charges in a car attack on a crowd of protesters opposing a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Aug. 12, 2017; a 32-year-old woman died and dozens were injured. (Fields later pleaded guilty to 29 federal hate crime charges under a plea deal in which prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty.)

Today Is:  NATIONAL BIKINI DAY – July 5

Since July 5, 1946, women have been hitting the beaches and poolsides in bikinis. National Bikini Day marks the anniversary of the invention of the revealing two-piece bathing suit.

Named after the Bikini Atoll where the United States conducted atomic tests, the two-piece bathing suit made its debut in Paris. French designer Louis Réard wanted to name revealing bits of fabric “atom.”

what part of Italy are you in anyway?
If you're looking at Italy like a boot, it's the back of the heel. Specifically in Fasano, Puglia.
So we can call you Stiletto Tony?

take your pick:

The most common surnames in Puglia are Russo and Greco. Some very common surnames shared with the rest of southern Italy are Rizzo, Leone, Bianco, Santoro, Bruno, Palumbo. Still others, very common throughout Italy, are Conte, Gentile, Romano, De Santis, Orlando, Rinaldi, Rizzi.
Typical Apulian surnames are Guadalupi, Lorusso (= the red one), Carrozzo, Quarta, Lippolis, Carrieri (= carriage driver), Semerano (= driver of donkeys), Saponaro (= soap maker), Ingrosso. A common feature of many Apulian surnames is the use of definite articles lo- and la-: Loconsole, Lorusso, Losacco, Lobascio (= the short one), Loiacono (=the deacon), Lafortezza (= the stronghold), Loiodice (= the judge), Loperfido (= the cruel one), Loporcaro (= the pig breeder).
Among surnames derived from nicknames there are Mele (= honey), Caputo (big-headed), Peluso (=hairy), Amoruso (=lovable), Longo (=tall), Pinto (= painted) e Patruno (= master).
Surnames of Greek origin are Basile (from basileos= king), De Mitri, Calogiuri (from kalogheros= beautiful elderly person), Calimero (= with beautiful legs), those with endings -ò (Castrignanò), -achi (Petrachi), -aci ( Antonaci, Colaci, Liaci). Other surnames of German origin are Ciuffreda, Grimaldi, Ranieri, Ruggiero.

Now this is bazaar!

HOUSTON (AP) - Two young Houston-area children are in critical condition following an argument between their father and another motorist who fired into their family car and ignited fireworks that caused the car to be engulfed in flames.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says a “road rage incident” led to the gunfire Thursday after the father and his wife had purchased fireworks. They were driving with their 1-year-old child and another child believed to be 1 to 3 years old.

Gonzalez says the father drove away following the gunfire but the family was forced to flee the car when flames consumed it.

A 64-year-old Villager accused of grabbing a younger man by the crotch has entered into a sentencing deal in Sumter County Court.

Marrian Ann Zambrano was arrested Christmas Eve after she allegedly groped the man outside RJ Gators at Lake Sumter Landing. The man, who was employed at the restaurant, claimed the resident of the Historic Side of The Villages wanted him to go home with her, tried to lower his pants and rubbed her breasts against his body. He told law enforcement he wanted to see her prosecuted and she was arrested on a charge of battery.

Last week in Sumter County Court, Zambrano pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct. The Mississippi native was ordered to pay $303 in court costs and sentenced to time served in jail. She had been booked at the jail at 9:49 p.m. Christmas Eve and bonded out at 12:03 a.m. Christmas Day, meaning she spent less than three hours behind bars.

Zambrano was represented by criminal defense attorney Leon Blakely Cheek.

He obtained what could have proved to be a key piece of evidence in the case, video from that fateful night. A trial before a jury had been scheduled for July 15, but there will be no trial thanks to last week’s deal.

People are definitely starting to run out of things to find offensive.

"PETA sent out a news release Wednesday morning alerting Idaho media that it has written a letter to Caldwell Mayor Garret Nancolas to ask for a change to the street name Chicken Dinner Road. "

Sheesh, I have had 2 naps, tried to watch a movie but was terrible and cut it off to find nothing worth a crap on tv.  Tired of watching it rain from inside so guess I will select a cigar and watch it rain outside.

Be back shortly with a cigar.
