Today is Thursday, Feb. 14, the 45th day of 2019. There are 320 days left in the year. This is Valentine's Day.

Today's Highlights in History:

On Feb. 14, 2018, a gunman identified as a former student opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, killing 17 people in the nation's deadliest school shooting since the attack in Newtown, Connecticut, more than five years earlier.

On this date:
In 1663, New France (Canada) became a royal province under King Louis XIV.
In 1859, Oregon was admitted to the Union as the 33rd state.
In 1903, the Department of Commerce and Labor was established. (It was divided into separate departments of Commerce and Labor in 1913.)
In 1912, Arizona became the 48th state of the Union as President William Howard Taft signed a proclamation.
In 1913, labor leader Jimmy Hoffa was born in Brazil, Ind.; college football coach Woody Hayes was born in Clifton, Ohio; sports broadcaster Mel Allen was born in Birmingham, Ala.
In 1929, the "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" took place in a Chicago garage as seven rivals of Al Capone's gang were gunned down.
In 1949, Israel's Knesset convened for the first time.
In 1876, inventors Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray applied separately for patents related to the telephone. (The U.S. Supreme Court eventually ruled Bell the rightful inventor.)
In 1979, Adolph Dubs, the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, was kidnapped in Kabul by Muslim extremists and killed in a shootout between his abductors and police.
In 1984, 6-year-old Stormie Jones became the world's first heart-liver transplant recipient at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (she lived until November, 1990).
In 2013, double-amputee and Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home in Pretoria, South Africa; he was later convicted of murder and is serving a 13-year prison term. American Airlines and US Airways announced an $11 billion merger that turned American into the world's biggest airline.
In 2017, a former store clerk was convicted in New York of murder in one of the nation's most haunting missing-child cases, nearly 38 years after 6-year-old Etan Patz (AY'-tahn payts) disappeared while on the way to a school bus stop.

Ten years ago: Savoring his first big victory in Congress, President Barack Obama used his weekly radio and Internet address to celebrate the just-passed $787 billion economic stimulus bill as a "major milestone on our road to recovery." Jazz drummer Louie Bellson, who'd performed with Duke Ellington and Bellson's late wife, Pearl Bailey, died in Los Angeles at age 84.

Five years ago: Drawing a link between climate change and California's drought, President Barack Obama said the U.S. had to stop thinking of water as a "zero-sum" game and needed to do a better job of figuring out how to make sure everyone's water needs were satisfied. An attempt by the United Auto Workers to organize employees at a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, fell short in a 712-626 vote. Jim Fregosi, a former All-Star who'd won more than 1,000 games as a manager for four teams, died in Miami at age 71.

One year ago: Stormy Daniels' manager said the porn star now believed she was free to discuss what she said was a sexual encounter with Donald Trump; she believed that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen had invalidated a non-disclosure agreement. After initially appearing to cast doubt on allegations that former aide Rob Porter had abused two ex-wives, Trump declared that he was "totally opposed to domestic violence." South African president Jacob Zuma, whose tenure had been marked by scandals, resigned after being ordered to do so by his party, the African National Congress.

Two men impersonating police officers tried to pull over a South Florida commissioner who is a former officer and now they are in police custody.

Miami-Dade Commissioner Joe Martinez grew suspicious Wednesday when he saw the sports utility vehicle with flashing lights that came up behind him on the Florida Turnpike.

Martinez says the vehicle was too spiffy to be a police vehicle and he noticed a temporary tag.

Martinez refused to pull over and was able to flag down an officer in a squad car who was on the roadside. The officer radioed for help.

The Miami Herald reports the men were taken into custody. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms who deal with police impersonators were on the way to interview the suspects.

Haven't checked how good these prices really are, but some options (especially as Rick is looking to buy!)

Leaf at Cigar King:
https://www.cigarking.com/40-off-leaf-by-oscar-blowout/?utm_source=Cigar+King&utm_campaign=c1fab18eec-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_01_06_COPY_51&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_32c136a61b-c1fab18eec-259976701&mc_cid=c1fab18eec&mc_eid=4dde6845d1

At Holts, good prices on AJF Last Call, EPC Core and Seleccion Oscuro,Room 101 MC3.  I'm sure some others are good prices as well, I just don't follow them as closely.

We always do golf on Friday, usually because we head for home on Saturday at check-out time. I'd ask what time you plan on coming up Saturday, but I know better than that.

A good review for Mr. Espinosa

https://halfwheel.com/espinosa-20th-anniversary/294020
Nice. I would buy a single and smoke it at the lounge. Hey fish what's the code at Famous in case I need it?
catsrule - 17% orders over $50

Monster Mash Coupon - MCPNSAV10 - $10 off orders $50+
Sadly, the second one expired at the end of 2018 after a run of at least three years.

coffee and BrickHouse maduro before I start making my rounds.
Because I'm a nosy bastard are you fulfilling lonely ladies on this V day?
card and chocolates for the crippled model this morning, lunch date with the Puerto Rican, card, candy and flowers for the Water Department, dinner with the lady, and sleep over at the neighbor lady.
Gonna need a bigger flow chart here.
For sure.  I'm impressed he was able to assemble this plan, but time will tell whether he can keep the DeanTrain on its tracks today.
the difficult part is I'm suppise to be getting my taxes done at 2pm and recovery meeting at 7pm.

I best these two dumbasses will not steal anymore honeymoon boats!

A Keys couple stole a sailboat for a Caribbean honeymoon. Now they’re off to prison.

Haven't checked how good these prices really are, but some options (especially as Rick is looking to buy!)

Leaf at Cigar King:

At Holts, good prices on AJF Last Call, EPC Core and Seleccion Oscuro,Room 101 MC3.  I'm sure some others are good prices as well, I just don't follow them as closely.

Thank you Dave. I'm gonna check this out on my break. Appreciate the help and recommendations

That 2-1/2 years in the fed lockup will seem like a nice honeymoon after 6 months in a Cuban slammer

If the ticket goes unclaimed, Mega Millions will return the funds to its member states. In South Carolina, that would be about $11 million. The state would miss out on any taxes collected from the winnings.

Hmm, let's see.  7% rate on lottery winnings in SC, applied to $1.5B is $105M.  So the state stands to loose out on $94M if unclaimed.  Ouch.

Indeed they will.  We're about to get f'ked on our local electrical rate as the City of Georgetown in their great green wisdom made a long term deal to buy renewable energy from West Texas.  The City had to commit to buying way more than needed, figuring they would sell the excess to the grid.  Lo & behold wholesale electric rates have come down, and now the City is loosing money on the deal.  Guess who gets it in the ass to make up the difference?

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -The winner of the $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot that was sold in Simpsonville, South Carolina last October still has not come forward.

The winner has until April 21, 2019, to come forward and claim the prize.
And SC will be out of their 60 mil in expected taxes that they already had in the budget.
What happens to the money if it goes unclaimed?
If the ticket goes unclaimed, Mega Millions will return the funds to its member states. In South Carolina, that would be about $11 million. The state would miss out on any taxes collected from the winnings.
Hmm, let's see.  7% rate on lottery winnings in SC, applied to $1.5B is $105M.  So the state stands to loose out on $94M if unclaimed.  Ouch.
SC doesn’t care they will just fook  us taxpayers some more.
Threebean!  That’s who.

Been getting fuct on utility rates here since the late 1800’s
Municipalities should not be selling energy in this day and age anyway.  Deregulation happened 25 years ago. FMTT.
