Ten years ago: The Iraqi militant group of terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (AH'-boo MOO'-sahb al-zahr-KOW'-ee) declared its allegiance to Osama bin Laden. (Al-Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. airstrike in 2006.) Betty Hill, who claimed that she and her late husband, Barney, had been abducted, examined and released by extraterrestrials in 1961, died in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, at age 85.

Thought for Today: "The philosophies of one age have become the absurdities of the next, and the foolishness of yesterday has become the wisdom of tomorrow." — Sir William Osler, Canadian physician and educator (1849-1919).

Dietitian
-------------------------

A dietitian was once addressing a large audience in Chicago:

"The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us
sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks erode your stomach
lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. Vegetables can be disastrous, and
none of us realizes the long-term harm caused by the germs in our drinking
water.

"But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have
eaten or will eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes
the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?"

A 75-year-old man in the front row stood up and said, "Wedding cake."

Today's Highlight in History:

On Oct. 17, 1814, the London Beer Flood inundated the St. Giles district of the British capital as a vat at Meux's Brewery on Tottenham Court Road ruptured, causing other vats to burst as well and sending more than 320-thousand gallons of beer into the streets; up to nine people were reported killed.
What a way to go!

Morning Chip.  Heading home day!
Glad you are headed home Sir and wish I could help you with that long flight.
Long it is, probably three movies, multiple catnaps and more than a few adult beverages (especially as on Lufthansa there is no extra charge, even in coach)
